Leadership by The Book
Lessons From Every Book of The Bible
- A lesson on leadership from each of the 66 books of the Bible demonstrates the Bible is a significant resource for leadership
- 66 bite-sized chapters which can be read quickly, used for personal devotion or in the context of talking about leadership with others
- Designed to be read along with a journal for reflection; for without the so what, now what we are simply reading a book without driving its concepts deeper into our hearts and minds
Most books about leadership are written from our perspective as the created, but Dr. Brent Garrison wanted to write a book about leadership which gave the prominent role to the Creator and His thoughts about leadership. After all, since we are created by God, there is no one who better understands our heart, our motives, our nature, and our abilities. God could be described as the CEO of the Universe and the greatest leader imagined; and His Son, Jesus Christ manifested this same nature through his leadership during His time on earth.
Think about this: Even though Jesus never held a position of formal leadership and lead a small, motley group; his life has had more impact than any other leader in history! By The Book Consultive Group seeks to emphasize that kind of leadership, and the character he had to lead such an impactful life.
Leading by the Book
Dr. Brent Garrison’s desire in writing this book is for readers to view the Bible as the greatest leadership resource in their library, and that they will be driven to know the Creator in a deeper way, for he wants every leader to tap into the truth of Scripture.
Leadership is about making good decision and executing in an excellent fashion, but it cannot be separated from character — for character is the way we treat one another. God created mankind in His image and therefore, mankind is the most important aspect of life. All too often leaders view people as a means to an end rather than the end—the purpose for your leadership is to relate to others with character.
“I enjoyed reading Leadership by The Book by my friend, Brent Garrison. A challenge, an insight, a Biblical perspective, a role model and sometimes a good old kick in the pants. As a leader, being regularly encouraged with a Biblical model for leaders is powerful and centering. I hope you find as much value from these leadership lessons as I have.”

“Dr. Brent Garrison is an outstanding communicator and speaker on leadership. Brent’s ability to connect with people and share biblical truth has the ability to change the direction of any organization seeking to challenge and move their leadership team to a new way to viewing their roles. Our firm was fortunate enough to have Brent share his thoughts on leadership over a two day period and the results will have a long lasting impact on our firm’s direction. Brent’s Leadership The Book is a great read for any leadership team and when coupled with Brent giving additional information on specific topics covered in the book the results can have a major impact on a leadership group.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Most leaders follow the example of someone who led them and they emulate their style. Others find their own leadership style, but even then, they are leading by what they have experienced. A Christ following leader wants to emulate the example of Christ and the way he lived during his time on earth. Christ’s life and mindset is best described in Philippians 2:1-11. Two ideas are evident in this passage: that Christ was humble, though God in the flesh, and; that he sought to serve rather than to be served. Can you imagine the power of your leadership if others saw a humble spirit and servant’s heart in your leading?
